Now that the digital pieces are out, I think it's time for the oil pieces to get some light too. I do work traditionally whenever I can to strengthen my painting and observation skills. It gets hard though when I'm so used to the convenience of digital painting.
Just thought I would show these, since I keep saying how working traditionally helps so much.

Still-lives for now, more later.

Mmm...you know what...that statue looks like it's made out of chocolate!!! Have you ever seen the movie Chocolat? The statue here resembles a chocolate one in movie. But now that I look at it more, the texture of it doesn't really have that smoothness that chocolate does. Sorry, I'm a bit hungry :giggle:. Lovely with the crane and all!!!

Love it, the reflections in the statue are great.
Awesome colours.

The statue is very nicely rendered. Simple yet with the right amount of detail. The color against the yellow is very good contrast. Could you tell me about the crane? It does not come out quite as dimentional as the statue.

my additional question is about scanning oil works; do you find that the scanner distorts color or picks out all imperfections? How are your works in your opinion when scanned as compared to how you see them in reality? Thanks

Thanks!
It's made with bamboo, and you hang it, thus the hint of a string.
I don't have a scanner large enough for these paintings, so I take pictures of them with my Cannon XTI. I have scanned paintings before and there tend to be a glare where the painting is slick, so I stopped. The advantage to scanning is that it picks up everything, but I don't think there's much difference in terms of color between the two. As long as you're not taking pictures in the dark, the colors can be adjusted fairly easily. Of course, nothing is perfect, so I settle for the next best thing.
