Haven't really painted any mermaid before, so this was done to explore that some more. I guess it's more of an experiment to see how far I can go in terms of portraying a mermaid. I just had some fun with this one, dealing more with the top half of the mermaid. I'm dealing with the whole thing in another painting.:]

Used myself as a ref.(mirror), and the fishes are from googled images, some I just made up

She looks wonderful. I can't help but to notice that the modern portrayal of mermaids is slowly creeping away from the usual top-half-human-bottom-half-fish style.

Which is good, it gives more variety to different portrayals of these creatures. Seriously, good job. She looks a fishy, yet cute and for some reason I especially like the yellowish musky water.

You don't see many pictures of mermaids that aren't in clear, blue, tropical seas.

Her habitat looks far more natural.

I saw this print in a huge, beautiful gold frame at the Chait Gallery in downtown Iowa City. I just have to tell you that it is simply stunning. If only I had that kind of cash...
