Shot Glass by thienbao Shot Glass by thienbao
Now that the digital pieces are out, I think it's time for the oil pieces to get some light too. I do work traditionally whenever I can to strengthen my painting and observation skills. It gets hard though when I'm so used to the convenience of digital painting.
Just thought I would show these, since I keep saying how working traditionally helps so much.

Still-lives for now, more later.

This little still life is reminiscent of a Chardin with the careful treatment of lights and darks. The well placed bursts of colors lead the eye around the dark background of the entire picture and the composition is brilliant at keeping the eye inside the picture instead of leading it out. This piece is very well put together and executed, an inspiration!

I'm mainly a traditional artist, allthough i'm saving up for a tablet and use PS as medium frequently.
This is very cool! The technique is actually kind of different than what I usually see in still life paintings. I have thought still life was boring until a couple of weeks ago (while reading art books)
Loving that low level of detail on the middle orange(?) slice, gives just enough room for imagination, at the same time as it underlines the texture and slight tranceparecy.

Wow, this is really well done! I like how you did the reflections of the fruit on the surface they are sitting on, and I really like how you seem to have light filtering through the quarter slice of orange.
-The glass full of liquid looks good, too.

Great job, keep it up!:D

I have to tell you, there is no one better when it comes to use of color. You have such a brilliant eye when it comes to lighting your objects that I can literally sit and stare at each piece for minutes at a time. I really have to congratulate you on your wonderful use of paint here as natural mediums are so much more difficult to judge. I'm currently working with chalk pastel at the moment myself and I want to thank you for the inspiration you've given me when it comes to choosing my colors.

I love all your oil paintings, but I decided to comment on this one because I felt it combined everything (technical and aesthetics) together more so than the other still brilliant paintings.

You have a lot of technical skill, but you also manage to create a special aura for the picture. It makes it much different from a photograph, even if it is photorealistic.

I love how textured the strokes are, I think you said somewhere that you use a palette knife to paint with. Is there a reason why you decide to paint with the knife rather than brushes?

The translucency of the oranges and the reflection on the table are done perfectly. My favorite of course, has to be the glass. It's just so bright and clear looking even with all the colors within it. I especially like how you depicted the refractions in the glass and the floating fruits; very magical.

When I try and paint glass with oils it turns out looking muddy. You're a great inspiration and one of my favorite artists, thanks for showing us your oil paintings! I love them.

*gasp* I love this one a lot. There's something so surreal about the glass... how the colors just... pop out because of the contrast. I could stare at this drawing for hours! *_*
