If you have a couple of hours to spare watch this lecture [link] of Randy Paush [link] .  If you don't have time, try to make some because it's worth every single second!

I had no idea who Randy Paush was until I stumbled on this recording of his lecture.  In it, he talks about achieving his dreams and the things he learned along the way.  I won't say much else, but give it a watch or a listen, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for sharing the link, it's really worthwhile and yes, maybe the discourse sounds a bit like a "lesson for success" (he's an academic isn't he?) but I feel it's authentic and, like he says, it's the "head fake" that's important - the subliminal message it transmits. And it's by listening to other people's experiences that you learn how to take advantage of opportunities to enable your own dreams. Just my feel on the topic. Thank you it was really worth it!

I meant to answer this before, but i didn't have a chance. When I first saw this gentlemen, I saw him on Opera. He gave a minny version of his the lecture. Thanks to you I saw the who thing and I glad you shared it. I think he is inspiring because death is part of life, no matter how we die. As long we live life to the fullest, then the end should not be so scary. And even if it is hopeful you have someone there to lend you a had in your time of need. Stabilitly, love, and freedom that's what anyone can really hope for in the world. Well, that's my opinion anyway...lol. Thanks, again.

I watched that one already.

I think it's easy for people who achieved what they wanted to achieve to look back and explain it with a maxim or two.

What makes people sucessful is knowledge. Knowledge they can't usually explain and mystify. Knowledge on how to take the right opportunities in life, if and when you have those opportunities.

Bitter are we? I do agree that it gets annoying when I hear people that have had a relatively stable, well-supported and stress free life talk about success like it's some sort of formula, but there's always something to be learned. This wasn't a success seminar, I think the bottom line was a) figure out what you want, b) don't give up on it, and c) above all, don't forget to have fun. You threw an hour and 45 minutes of your life at the video, you might as well get something back, eh?
